Every stage of Punimeari has been shaped by a decision to slow down, fire less, and finish better. Here is how the studio grew.
2019 — The First Kiln
We started with a single second-hand kiln and a bag of local stoneware clay. The first batches came out uneven, but the speckled surfaces caught our attention. That accident became the foundation of our glaze research.
2021 — The Glaze Lab
We invested in a small glaze lab and began documenting every recipe, firing cycle, and cooling curve. Over two years we tested more than 200 combinations, keeping only the finishes that felt honest to the material.
2023 — Signed and Numbered
We moved from one-off experiments to a consistent line of mugs, bowls, and vases. Each piece is now signed and numbered, and we limit every glaze run to keep the work honest and collectible.
2025 — Commission Work
We now take a limited number of commissions each season, working directly with clients on form, finish, and scale. The goal is not mass production, but a piece that fits one shelf, one table, one daily ritual.

2019
A secondhand wheel set up in a garage. The first batch of mugs came out lopsided, but the speckled glaze test on a single bowl made the direction clear.
2021
Twelve pieces sold at a local craft market. Every serving bowl and vase found a home, and the signed-and-numbered series became a permanent practice.
2022
After months of firing tests, the matte clay-beige glaze finally held its texture without crawling. That recipe now anchors the entire tableware line.
2023
Began taking custom orders for dinner sets and sculptural vases. Each commission starts with a clay sample and a conversation about how the piece will live in the home.
2024
Launched a limited run of planters and sculptural objects in dusty terracotta. The series sold out in three weeks and remains the most requested glaze for commissions.
Punimeari began with a simple observation: most tableware is made to be replaced, not kept. We wanted to make objects that earn a permanent place in your home — pieces that carry the mark of the hand that shaped them and improve with years of use.
Every mug, bowl, and vase is thrown on the wheel in small batches, then finished with glazes we mix ourselves. We fire at stoneware temperatures, which makes the clay dense and durable enough for daily life, while the speckled and matte surfaces keep each piece visually quiet — easy to live with, easy to style.
Each piece begins as a lump of clay on the wheel. This means no two items are identical — slight variations in rim thickness and glaze flow are part of the design, not flaws.
We mix our own glazes in small quantities, testing new recipes before they reach the shelves. The result is a palette of matte and speckled finishes you won't find in mass-produced ceramics.
Every piece carries the maker's mark and an edition number. We keep records of each firing, so your ceramic has a documented place in the studio's history.
